Google's goo.gl links will no longer work from August 2025 onwards

Today, Google announced that their URL shortener, goo.gl will no longer be supported after August 25th, 2025.

This means that all links shortened with goo.gl will no longer resolve or redirect to their destination URL from August 25th, 2025 onwards.

To help people transition, goo.gl links will start showing an interstitial page starting August 23, 2024 notifying users about the deprecation notice:

Optionally, you can also suppress the interstitial page by temporarily adding ?si=1 to the end of your goo.gl short link. (source)

What is the impact of this change?

Given that there are over 3.6 billion URLs shortened with goo.gl as per Majestic, there is a significant amount of links that will be affected during the cutoff date.

What are the alternatives to goo.gl?

Interestingly, the alternative that Google initially recommended, Firebase Dynamic Links, will also be deprecated on August 25th, 2025.

Since this was announced, there hasn't been a reliable alternative to goo.gl links that is easy to use but also powerful enough to support different analytics use cases & needs.
